What is the AppStore?
Last updated: October 8, 2024
Lumos gives your company superpowers by giving you the tools to create an AppStore for your employees.
But what is the AppStore? How’s it different from the one you use on your phone?
Why Do You Need An AppStore?
The apps we use at our jobs are different from the ones we use on our phones. At work, we use apps to make spreadsheets, plan projects, and more. The list of apps your company uses is probably huge!
It’s easy to get apps on your phone. But at work, getting an app usually involves creating a ticket. Then there’s an approval process, emails to be sent, follow-ups, logging in to create accounts, etc.
Without an AppStore, the process for getting apps is time-consuming and manual.
So how do you help people get apps at work as easily as they do on their phone without sacrificing security and compliance? Use Lumos to give them an AppStore!
How It Works
Watch this short video to see how easy it is for an employee to request apps through the Lumos AppStore.
On the flip side, see how easy it is for someone to approve an app requested in the AppStore.
Requests and approvals can happen in Lumos or Slack and are usually completed in a matter of minutes, as opposed to hours or days.
How Does The AppStore Provision Access To Apps?
Lumos discovers all of your company’s SaaS apps and integrates with your IdP to provision access to your apps in seconds. See 📄 Manage Your SaaS in Lumosand 📄 Activating Your Lumos Account
After requests are approved, requesters can automatically get access to an app tile in your IdP, which often automates downstream workflows.
For apps that can’t be auto-provisioned, app admins can still create accounts manually and confirm in Slack when they're done so that requesters are notified and an audit trail gets created for every request.
Companies using the AppStore have realized an outcome they never thought possible — auditable self-service workflows where employees can get approved access to apps without IT ever being involved.
How Do You Build The AppStore?
You don’t need to be a developer to add apps to your AppStore. Just select the apps that you want to add, add the approvers and admins, and you’re good to go!
Of course, you can make powerful customizations. Want to hide GitHub from the Sales team? No problem. Do you want to customize the request instructions for Salesforce? We’ve got you covered.
Worried that adding all of your apps will take too long? Enable Custom Requests to make Lumos a single pane of glass for all of your app requests right away and grow your AppStore over time. See📄 Enabling Custom Requests
Some companies have built and rolled out their AppStore in just a couple of weeks. Our team will work with you to help answer questions and provide guidance along the way!
