Merging Lumos Apps

Last updated: October 7, 2024

Why do you merge?

Lumos discovers the apps that you use at your company and you may see duplicates in your All Apps table. How do those apps get there? If you're curious about the various sources we leverage, please read this article:📄 App Source Reference

Depending on the use case, you may want to merge these app together, in order to gain visibility and consolidate capabilities for deprovisioning.

When do you merge?

  1. [More common] You're merging an IdP-sourced app with a direct Lumos integrated app.

  2. [Common] You're merging a Shadow IT app with another Shadow IT app.

  3. [Less Common] You're merging an app with a manually imported (I.e. custom) app.

What are the possible effects of merging?

We'll do our best to ensure that your Lumos configurations remain intact. However, there are scenarios that may result in conflicts - please read below to understand the expected behavior upon a merge and if your merges may be affected.

  • AppStore

When you're merging two apps together, if one of the apps are configured in the AppStore, we'll keep that configuration.
If multiple are configured, one will win out based on the source of the app (Lumos direct integration will take priority, then delegated apps (Okta, OneLogin, AzureAD, etc.), and then finally Shadow IT).

  • Inactivity Workflows

If you are merging two apps together that each have an Inactivity Workflow set, we'll keep both.

  • Savings

Any references to apps in the Savings tabs will update to the newly merged cluster.

  • Access Reviews

Access Review will go off of the snapshot of data at time of creation. Keep in mind that if you merge an app after having already kicked off an access review, the changes will not reflect. We recommend that you conduct all merging before starting your Access Review.

Additional Notes & FAQs

1. How do I merge two apps together?

2. Can I merge a Shadow IT app with a direct Lumos integration?

No, not at this time. We actually advise that you hide Shadow IT if there's an app with a direct integration, because Lumos will expect the direct and/or delegated app to be the source of truth representing the accounts for that SaaS application.

3. Help! I accidentally merged two apps. How do I unmerge?

Please reach out to your CSM or support@lumos.com and we'll get you squared away. 😊
