What's the difference between an App and an Integration?
Last updated: October 7, 2024
Background
So, now that you’re in Lumos, you may be wondering...
What is the difference between Integrations:
and Apps? 🤔
We’ll start with Integrations. There are two different types— Direct Integrations & Delegated Integrations.
Integrations
Direct Integration
A direct integration is a type of App (we’ll get to this) that you have integrated with specific credentials. When you go to the Integrations page and authenticate, this allows us to make API calls to those service providers and enables certain automated actions, like:
Suspend User
Deprovision User
Provision User
List Users
Get Last Activity/Login
Get License Usage Data
Get Role Data
Lumos has 60+ direct integrations today! Check them out here 👀
Delegated Integration
A delegated integration is a type of direct integration (I.e. Okta, OneLogin, Google Workspace), that allows us to read and edit other 3rd party SaaS apps & enable operations that we may not have a direct integration to.
By connecting a delegated integration, Lumos is able to delegate certain operations to an app (e.g. Okta) on your behalf, such as provisioning or deprovisioning users.
Apps
An App refers to a software application leveraged by your organization. Within the All Apps tab in Lumos, you’ll find Apps that are sourced from a number of places:
Email OAuth tokens (Google/Microsoft)
Direct Integrations you’ve connected
Email Subject Lines [Optional]
Expense Reporting [Coming Soon!]
To wrap it all up 🌯
Using your credentials, you can connect an Integration within "Integrations" in Lumos
Once connected, these will show up as an App in your "All Apps" table
Which you can then configure & add to your App Store!
